Score 21

I made up a new math game today I named "Score 21." I hope I can explain it OK. We used it for working on multiplication facts.
You need the following:
  • 2 10-sided dice numbered 0-9 (but we use the "0" as a "10")
  • tiles labeled with every answer to the multiplication problems 1x1 through 9x9 (so answers to 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, etc) - I think I had 42 tiles (I used some double sided round "tiles" a friend had given me, but you can make yours out of squares of paper or whatever you have on hand)
  • a grid - I just happened to make mine 6x5, but you could make it larger or smaller

To start with, randomly label each square with a point amount - I used 1, 2, & 3 points (see the 3 that is uncovered on the photo.) Then, place the tiles randomly on each square of the grid.

To play, roll the dice and solve the multiplication problem. If your "answer" is on the grid, remove it and you score that many points. Then, place an unused tile on the grid. (Or, you could make a grid large enough to handle all of the numbers. In our setup, there are times you'll roll and not score any points because that answer isn't on the grid.) Keep taking turns until someone scores 21 points!

Hope you have fun with this one! We did and I know we'll be playing again...

Hey! I love that idea!
What did you use to make your tiles? I've got to think about whether we have any of those dice....
Very cool game! ;-)

Love your game.

Can't wait to see your pictures with your camera. I've narrowed my choices down to the Canon Rebel XTi and the Nikon D40X.

That looks like fun! Very clever!

What a fun game! I bet you could do it with addition or subtraction as well... a smaller grid and fewer tiles would be required. I'll have to give that a try since my kiddos are little yet. :)

Poker chips or old milk jug lids could be used for the tiles.

This looks like a great game. I will make it for our Workboxes.

This is such a great idea! I'd love to post this on my Show and Tell next week. I know all my homeschooling readers would appreciate this. By the way,I did a little 'blurb' about your blog today when I shared the video on my show and tell today. I told them all about your great posts on homeschooling and travel.
