Newest Visitor
The newest visitor to our backyard... a red-bellied woodpecker!!! We put out a suet-type feeder (this is a no-melt type) 2 days ago and I spotted this woodpecker this morning. He visited at least 3 times today. The feeder has also attracted our first pair of starlings.

We've had a Red Bellied Woodpecker (Where's the red belly?) at our feeders, also. I read that they like bits of oranges, so I put some on the railing of our deck. And wouldn't you know, he came right up to our deck and stayed for a while. He wasn't scared at all.
That is beautiful!

We have a red bellied and a hairy woodpecker that visit our suet feeder every day. The redbellied doesn't like to share, but the hairy fids lots of sneaky ways to get his share. We did have a downy woodpecker and a yellow bellied sapsucker earlier this year, but they haven't been around recently. And we have a family of pileated woodpeckers in the yard, but they are too shy to come to the feeder. We've also been amazed at how many different birds our "sparrows" were once we really started looking at them.
We are using Apologia's Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day too. I never knew what all these birds were before!I guess I just didn't take the time to really see them.
I followed a link from Jamin's blog...I loved seeing all your cool outings. We are just about done with first grade as well, is this an awesome age or what?
Blessings,
Diane
I love woodpeckers. On the rare occasion that we see one, it is so little. I don't think I have ever seen one as big and pretty as yours!
