I was just updating my blog by adding a "Nature Group" label to my sidebar and realized I'd never posted photos from our December outing to the Kleb Woods Nature Preserve. So, here are a few photos! (And, I've posted 2 or 3 posts several times this week trying to "catch up" so you might scroll down some!)

The lady in the blue jacket was our guide to the farm... and the photo is of Mr. Kleb

Raccoon tracks? We've never studied animal tracks before - can someone give me some help on how to get started? Or good books? Or a good website? Thanks!!! By the way, I did find this Eek! site (Enviromental Education for Kids), but I need to spend more time with it.
I think the best book on animal tracks and signs is called "Tracking and the Art of Seeing," by Paul Rezendes. We also have some good handy pocket guides put out by Lone Pine called "Animal Tracks of the Southern Appalachians", and "Animal Tracks of Alaska". Those are for our areas, but I'm sure they have them for your area as well. Have fun!
We'll have to make some more trips up your direction. Have you ever been to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge? That is where we are planning on going to next.
Lindsay was learning about animal tracks and a friend sent me this link. It has printable tracks and pictures of the animals that make them. There is not a large selection, but she really had fun with these.
We would like to learn more about tracks, too. We have a Tracks & Trails class in March, but I'm not sure we are going to be able to make that one. I hope so, because you rarely get to actually see these animals, so the tracks can show you who has visited. And I think that's pretty interesting.
