On Wednesday of our vacation, we first went to Focus on the Family's Visitor Center. Alexandra really enjoys Adventures in Odyssey, so she enjoyed the elevator "disguised" as Imagination Station - the time machine. And, she went "through the wardrobe" into "Narnia."
Next we went up Pike's Peak on the Cog Railway. We enjoyed some wonderful homemade doughnuts at the top, but we were glad we were only up there for a short time. It was really cold and the high altitude made me a little wobbly. (Photo in front of America the Beautiful poem which was inspired by Pike's Peak.)
Our last trip for the day was into Cave of the Winds. This was Alexandra's first cave ever! (My camera didn't like the cave very much, but we did buy the "professional" photo they made - it was good.) Alexandra was worried as the told us there was a $25,000 fine if you touched the cave walls! Her hands went in her pockets and stayed there most of the time.
We have a lot of caverns near Aquagirl's college, so we have visited a couple of times. One of them, The Endless Caverns, has every kind of cave formation known, all in one place. They have been exploring this cave since 1879 and have still not found the end of it. One of the prettiest areas in the cave is a wall that has a cave formation made from limestone and it is varying shades of blue.... Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! It looks like you are having such a great time. My Carlsbad photos turned out poorly too - and my two year old through his pacifier over the side of the cave walls. So embarassing. Alexandra's a good little girl!
ReplyDeleteI was upset that we didn't get the chance to go by Focus on the Family. We also considered the train up Pikes Peak and didn't do it. I so want to go back and hit all the things we missed before. We went right by the Natural Springs pool and didn't have time to stop. We were trying to make it to Brekenridge for the night. "sigh" We needed a couple of weeks there!!!
