President's Day: Washington

Our co-op met on President's Day and I taught about Lincoln (I posted what I was teaching earlier) and Ms. S taught on Washington.

Besides reading George Washington and the General's Dog, Ms. S also lead the girls in a neat activity - she helped them to make rings out of dollar bills. When you make the ring, you can see the "ONE" and "1" on the front. (Above is a photo of the girls folding their rings and she found the instructions in The Buck Book by Johnson.)
We also talked about how both Lincoln and Washington are on a coin and a bill. (And, that they were both known for their honesty!) We even looked at the Lincoln Memorial on the back of a penny using their microscope. I was surprised you could see it on a microscope, but she had one that could illuminate from above.
